I love finding ways to mix and match staples in my wardrobe. For this week's 3 way look I've taken some old favs and new favs and put them together. It's a fun way to wake up your fashion creativity, and get your style muscle working.

OUTFIT 1
Let's start with going back to basics with a twist. On one level this is just a black woven pant paired with a crewneck sweater and a simple silver necklace. For me, January signals blue and black, and classic silhouettes. I'm over festive colors and combinations. I need a break, but I still want to wear my clothes, but something simpler. Simple doesn't have to been basic or boring. By choosing a brighter blue instead of a navy (which would be tres chic!) or a more subdued color I'm bringing this ensemble to life. It says "I'm here, and I'm ready for whatever the day holds." In this outfit you can go anywhere and do anything from baking with the kiddos, to work, to drinks with friends. Pair it with weather sensible shoes and you're ready to go.

OUTFIT 2
This is your more casual version of Outfit 1. I've replaced the woven black pant for a distressed black wash jean and added a bigger pendant necklace. This is your weekend or run around look with a punch. Again, the bright blue wakes up the outfit and takes it to an interesting level. Wearing brighter colors in classic shapes creates interest. It also can be a mood booster when the snow is above your car.

OUTFIT 3
This is one of my favorite January outfits so far. I love using my houndstooth holiday skirt in a new way. If you've been following me for a while, you know I'm a skirt and dress gal. That's where I feel the most comfortable. Swapping out my bright red sweater for a bright blue makes a world of difference and puts me in the frame of mind to take on the winter days ahead. Nothing is competing in this outfit even though we've got color, texture, and shine. If the blue sweater had a pattern, it probably wouldn't make sense. So by keeping the rest of the palette neutral (black and white) and adding that pop of blue the focus leads up the the face and doesn't get distracted by the clothes.
