2 Skirts 2 Ways

On Tuesdays I usually do a 3 ways to wear or 3 Days of Outfit Inspiration, but when I was looking at my photos from the winter photoshoot I thought this was a very applicable topic to write about. By showcasing two different ways to wear a basic palette of red, white, and black with two different skirts it becomes easier to see which outfit would work for you and your life this winter.

THE CORDUROY SKIRT
Outfit 1
This outfit is so fun! It has texture, it has pattern, and if you could see my sparkly earrings it would have shine. What a great outfit for a business party, afternoon get together, or Tuesday. This outfit also has the added bonus of being very structured, but not too "office" looking for those of us who don't work in one. It's comfortable and interesting. Pair it with short boots for a modern cool vibe, or pumps for more dressed up look.

Outfit 2
Same skirt, same jacket, different shirt. Holy Hannah, does this outfit look completely different with a white blouse instead of a patterned one. White just does something chic to any outfit. If you don't have a white blouse (mine is cotton) that you can just grab and put with anything you need one. This is my "I don't know what to wear with this" shirt. No matter what I put it with it always looks awesome. Again, structured but not too structured. The skirt is allowing a bit of playfulness that a plain black skirt wouldn't allow. This is the more chic option of the two, so depending on where you are going and who you are meeting up with this could be a better option for you.

THE HOUNDSTOOTH SKIRT
Outfit 1
Christian Dior was one of the first designers to use houndstooth in the late 1940's and it later became one of his design house calling cards. My skirt is from Ann Taylor LOFT, so a ways away from the prestige fashion house, but still just as stunning and classic. This skirt will never go out of style. The cut is classic as well with a little bit of shine running through the threads. When you put it on you feel classier and more sophisticated. For outfit 1 I'm playing with this idea of sophistication and pairing it with a stitch red sweater. Black, red, and white are a classic combination for the holiday season and I love the idea of pairing different levels of dress together to create an interesting look.

Outfit 2
This version of the skirt is a few different decades smashing into each other and creating something cool, modern, and everywhere appropriate. As always with a winning outfit we have texture, shine, and pattern. For me, the jacket and the necklace make this look a "look." Without the necklace to break up the black it wouldn't work. Without the faux suede detail in the jacket the outfit would fall slightly flat. Pair this with different shoes for different events and you've just created three more outfits by changing your shoes. I like to wear tall riding boots in the winter as an extra layer between me and the cold winter wind. I'm also outside picking up my kiddo, so if you're a person who can go from the car to the office without much winter getting in the way then a shorter boot would be killer here. Find something with a silver buckle and you're more edgy, find a leather shorter boot for more polish. It all works.
