3 Ways to Wear: A Navy Skirt

There are few items in my wardrobe that can act as chameleon like as my navy skirt. Navy is a rich color, but it's not as formal as black. Just like black is good for all seasons, so is navy. This navy skirt is a little on the shorter side (for me), so I only wear it when I know I'm not going to end up on the floor with the kiddos, but otherwise this is a very versatile type of skirt to have in your wardrobe (Mama or otherwise). Let's get into the looks and why they work.

OPTION 1:
You can't go wrong with basic on basic. It's a very French way of dressing, but it's also an effortless and easy way to put your outfits together. The blouse does have eyelet detailing on it, which adds textural interest, as well as a ruffled sleeve. I also added some shine with a simple silver necklace. You'll see in the video that I chose to pair this with some blue and cream wedges. I love a wedge in the summer. It's that perfect in between shoe. It's casual, but elevated from wearing flip flops.

OPTION 2:
Now we're taking Option 1 one step further. Adding a striped top with texture, a bigger necklace, and a jean jacket. This outfit will take you pretty much anywhere this summer and into the beginning of Fall. A classic jean jacket has so many uses (see 3 Ways to Wear a Black Maxi), and wearing it with a basic cotton weave skirt adds an element of texture to the outfit, as well as Classic American style. Lots of different blues are being matched with this outfit, but they all talk to one another, and no one is fighting, so it works. Also, note that the necklace is silver, but the buttons on the jacket are bronze. Again, they aren't the same, but they're still talking to one another. As long as your pieces are speaking nicely and not yelling, you're good to go.

OPTION 3:
This is probably my favorite way to wear my navy skirt right now. It's unexpected with a woven vest, and screams summertime. I paired this stripy vest with a simple necklace I got during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (See the video here), and, what I like to call, park shoes. You could totally wear this vest open over a T-shirt and that would give a different vibe. However, for this last month of hot summer heat, I'm wearing mine with a camisole underneath.
