I don't know about you, but there's something about a plaid pant that sets my heart racing. Perhaps it's because I'm in love with English culture, and even though plaid comes from Scotland, I always associate it with English street style. So when I saw these cotton based plaid pants, I just had to have them.
Styling plaid pants can seem tricky at first, but let's take the pattern away for a moment and focus on the colors woven into the pants. There's a cornflower blue, a peach, black and white. Sometimes the black and white look grey, so even if you just stuck with the basic of black, white, and grey you would have a ton of possibilities for mixing and matching.

OPTION 1:
As always, let's start off with the least scary option. The one that you will probably grab over and over again. We're talking about a white blouse and simple silver necklace. However, we're taking this outfit a bit further because this white blouse has a lot of detail. There's a floral pattern woven onto in, a ruffle sleeve, and a V-neck. You could close the V, but I find this makes it a little too prim and proper for me because the V is not deep at all.
This is a great option for the office, going to a meeting or a lunch. Pair it with wedges and heels and you are on your way!

OPTION 2
This is when we start to play with color. Even though we're not going with a cornflower blue top (which you totally could), we're bringing the attention to the blue color in the pants. Do you see how much more the peach and the blue pop in this photo compared to Option 1? I've added a peach statement pendant to make everything feel cohesive. Again this would be great for any number of situations including staying at home with the kiddos. All these fabrics are easy breezy to take care of, and you don't have to worry about sitting and playing on the floor or running after them. You'll look great no matter where you are or what you are doing. I like pairing this outfit with wedges in a blue.

OPTION 3
This is my favorite option because it really reminds me of English street style. I feel like when you need an air of "coolness" add a scarf. If you notice we've stuck with a basic black T-shirt, but we're playing with texture and color in the scarf. Also, even thought all of these elements are cotton based, they all have different textures. The pants have a woven texture, the T-shirt is smooth, and the scarf has a bigger woven texture. All of these elements say the outfit is interesting without being over the top.
Now let's talk about the scarf. There's not cornflower blue and there's not peach...How does this work? Well the peach on the pants is a pinky peach, and the scarf is a dusty pink. Put together it almost look like it matches. Notice in this photograph how the peach pops in the pants more than the blue in Option 2. What about the pattern? Can you layer pattern on pattern? YES! One pattern has to be bolder than the other pattern and you're off to the races. This outfit is a little more casual so you're probably doing errands, hanging out with the kiddos, or meeting girlfriends for lunch in this outfit.
