5 Fall Accessories

As the weather continues to get cooler it is time to update your fall accessories. I always like to check out websites like Vogue to see what is trending during the current season. However, and this is a BIG however, it is always important to take the ideas from the runway shows and put them into your lifestyle. If the trend of the season doesn't fit, then drop it. If it does, go for it!

HAT

Hats were all the rage this season, and let's be honest, most fall and winter seasons. I personally love the brand Brixton. Why? My head is larger than the average female head, so stock hats that all the other brands sell do not fit me. I was thrilled when I found this brand through Nordstrom. I've been wearing their hats for three years now and they still look new (except my gardening hat, but that gets pretty banged up in the summer). This year I went with a wool felted hat in a rancher style. I love that it goes with most of my fall outfits from jeans and sweaters to skirts and sweaters. This is the key. Find a hat that fits with your style, but don't be afraid to try something new too.

BOOTS

Boots are a classic way to say to the world, "Yes I realize the weather has changed and now I am wearing more weather appropriate footwear", but saying that with style and not actually saying it out loud. I myself love a knee high boot. The shorter boots are great, but for me, a knee high boot is classic with shorter skirts, and they add an extra layer of warmth as the weather gets cooler. If you can go over the knee without it hampering your day to day I say go for it. These are a glamorous option and very popular again this year, but they bother my knee area so I haven't been able to participate in this trend yet.

COAT

I cannot say enough about finding a great fall/winter coat. If this is your first year amping up your wardrobe then go with a neutral like navy, camel, or black. I personally like to reserve black for winter and go heavy on the navy in fall. I love UK brands like Boden and American brands like Lauren Ralph Lauren for their coats. You could go more mainstream as well for a more trendy option. However, if you're trying to build a wardrobe that lasts throughout the seasons go with something a little more expensive from a brand that knows coats.

JEWELRY

There is a difference between summer and fall jewelry. With more emphasis on the clothing and less on the accessories, it's time to lighten up with the huge pendants, and go for more simple options. You're also probably wearing lots of layers, so jewelry can get burdensome if it's too over the top. I love Kendra Scott, Nickel & Suede, and J Crew for all seasons. Trendier and more mainstream stores are also a great option.

HANDBAG

Update your handbag? Yes my friends, through color, material, and size. Depending on your lifestyle and work look for a size appropriate option in a fall neutral color. I love my Kate Spade blush handbag from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. This is pretty much an all year round bag for me. I'm putting away from bright green Tory Burch bag for Spring and going heavy with the blush this season. I'm also wearing my Senreve a lot as well. I've packed away from Tory Burch tote for summer and spring, and am going with a more sturdy material: leather.
