Bring Up the Bodies Makeup

Are you ready for this? We don't actually know what Anne Boleyn looked like. The only surviving portrait of her was commissioned by Elizabeth when she was queen after her mother had died. Creating a makeup look around a historical person like that can be tricky. How true to history do you want to go? There's also a fantastic Wolf Hall series through Masterpiece on PBS with excellent makeup. I decided I wanted to go slightly more modern with my interpretation, but not so far off the mark that there was no connection.

I was scanning Vogue magazines at my local library and came across the 2022 October cover with Jennifer Lawrence in a burgundy dress discussing motherhood and I just knew that this was the look for Anne Boleyn with a modern twist.

The big take away this week for creating a character through makeup is that you have to keep looking. Surround yourself with images and then something will hit you. Don't "look" for the look. You could be inspired by art, cinema, a book, etc. Something will hit you and the light bulb will go on. Be sure to check out the tutorial here for all the links to product, and tips and tricks for creating this look.
