Color 3 Ways in November

I love color. Have you guessed? Fall is truly one of the best times to play with color. With all the rich pigments floating about in nature and in the stores, it is a great time to refresh your wardrobe or break out some favorite pieces and wear them in new ways.

OUTFIT 1

This is a great way to dip your toe into wearing brighter colors this season. Take a color that you are drawn to and amp it up in the jewel tone family, or just a more saturated shade. I chose this pumpkin color sweater. It's not red, it's not orange, it's right in the middle. This sweater looks great when paired with brown tones, so of course I grabbed my faux leather skirt from LOFT and put this outfit together. It's interesting color wise and texturally. I've also added my sculpture necklace from J Crew to add a bit of shine. Wear this around town, at the office, or hanging out with the kiddos, it's great for most occassions and places with the right shoes.

OUTFIT 2

This outfit just works. It is simple, monochromatic, and balances proportions. Whenever you are wondering what to wear, I say go for something monochromatic. Add some pattern in where you want, and you've created a visually interesting outfit. Worried about putting a color like plum close to you face? Then put it on the bottom and add something in the same shade range on top. I've chosen a blouse with some volume to balance out my lower half. This not only adds visual interest, it balances out my proportions.

OUTFIT 3

This is the most visually interesting outfit of the three, yet it doesn't scream at you either. The corduroy skirt (cloth of kings, my friends) catches the light in interesting ways as you move while the blouse has a little ruffle detailing on the sleeves to take it from a regular blouse to something more interesting. The pattern on the blouse doesn't overwhelm my frame, and even though it's not blue the green in a spruce green. Spruce indicates that it is both green and blue. Pay attention to what the companies name their colors. They are trying to help you, not confuse you. If it says it is a burgundy, it means it has both red and purple. So match it with something red or purple. Savy? This outfit is one step away from monochromatic, which makes it one step more interesting.
