How to Wear Red in Winter

Red is one of those colors that is a MUST during the winter season. It brightens the complexion and wakes up an otherwise black outfit. Whether it's a scarf, a sweater, or a coat; find some way to wear red and you'll brighten up those duller winter days.

OUTFIT 1

This is taking the idea of apres ski and waking it up a bit. When you wear red it dictates where people look first. Red is a powerful color, and should be used wisely. If you want to add volume to your top half then adding some red there is a great way to go. This outfit is simple, but impactful and you can wear it to any casual outing you have in store for the day.

OUTFIT 2

This outfit screams December to me in a London meets Scotland kind of way. A plaid skirt with black, white, and red chunky threads, paired with a jersey jacket to add some more texture, and then BAM! A red scarf to let the eye settle somewhere. The great thing about a red scarf is that it puts all the focus on the face. Especially when you are wearing a basic palette of black and white everywhere else. This outfit has tons of texture interest with the plaid weaving on the skirt to the to the woven scarf. It will keep you warm and in a festive mood all month long.

OUTFIT 3

When you want to add a big impact to an outfit think about wearing a bright colored sweater. Again, red is powerful. It's like white. Wherever these colors exist in your outfit that is where the eye goes first and will rest. I love that this sweater has some texture, it reminds me of a fisherman's sweater which makes this outfit even more interesting when paired with a fine corduroy skirt in an interesting pattern. You've got two main textures in the outfit, a powerful color, and just a touch of glamour with the necklace.
