When March hits I am so ready for Spring. Because I live in the midwest, I need to ease myself into the new season. Why? Because it can keep snowing through March. I am lightening up my denim (a little), bringing back some fall pieces and reworking them with new colors or matching them with new items.
As always, this is just a jumping off point. I want to share the key items I'm going to be mixing and matching into my wardrobe to create effortless looks while keeping in mind that this is simply for inspiration. I will also be doing several vacation capsule wardrobe posts and videos in the next few weeks.
Navy Sweater
Everyone needs one. It is one of those pieces, like a black blazer, that just go with everything. Throw it on with colored denim for a cool European vibe. Pair it with a skirt for a sophisticated afternoon. Pair it with trousers for work. The options are endless.
I like mine to be basic with a twist. I want something that can stand the test of time, but has some unexpected details. This one from Ann Taylor LOFT fits the bill. It has feminine detailing around the neckline while maintaining that classic boxy fit. There are a few buttons as well going along the collarbone, which to me says military inspired, and therefore masculine. A great piece for any skin tone, age, and any wardrobe.
Grey Denim
I'm completely obsessed with these jeans. First of all, I can't believe I just wrote that sentence, because as you know I am a skirt and dress gal, but holy hannah. These grey jeans entered my life sometime in December and I have been wearing them non stop. They also seem to go with everything and are becoming a hero item in my wardrobe this month. Because they are a raw hem straight fit, I like to roll up the hem to create a jogger feel. This pairs really well with my favorite pumps from MICHAEL Michael Kors, and will continue to go well with a Dolce Vita shoe on my wishlist for later this Spring. Pair this denim with blazers, sweaters, and blouses for an edgy casual chic look.
Faux Leather
Whether you're a skirt gal or a pants gal, I'm switching up my commando joggers and going back to my faux leather skirt from Ann Taylor LOFT. This skirt was a work horse in my fall wardrobe, and I think the caramel color is great for Spring. It's faux leather, so it has no breathability. This is a good thing when you live in the midwest. It traps the heat in around the leg area. The color of this skirt is to die for and goes with navies, greens, creams, black, etc. The cut is timeless and so far it has held up very nicely.
Jackets
Having a few jackets in your wardrobe really help to transition into warmer weather. Whether you are wearing blouses, thin sweaters, etc. you need a few jackets to keep you warm in March. Some of my favorites are my Marrakech green utility jacket. It's a bit more cropped so goes great with everything from dresses to skirts to pants. A white blazer. This one from Evereve has a hood which makes it more fun and casual, and it pairs really well with T-shirts, sheer sweaters, etc. The last one is a bit more substantial. This one is a denim jacket from Paige and has a bit of sheerling on the collar. I love pairing this with dresses and skirts. It has a good weight to it, lots of stretch, and adds a western vibe to everything I pair it with.
Beauty
How do we transition into Spring for beauty? One of the biggest trends I'm seeing right now is nail polish. I love nail polish. It is the fastest and easiest way to say, yes I'm ready for Spring. Neon is major in beauty right now, so if you're like me and don't want to wear neon on your face, wear it on your hands and toes instead.
