Transitioning to Fall: 3 Outfits to Get You Started

Where I live the weather hasn't fully committed to fall yet so I'm still wearing some of my summer items with a fall twist. I thought this post might spark your creativity with your own closet, so let's get started.

OUTFIT 1
Shorts, controversial to some, in a darker color are a great transitional piece to bring into the fall. If you have a navy pair or black pair those are my go to's for this type of outfit. You can dress them up with a fall blouse and or jacket. I've chosen to pair mine with a boyfriend style plaid shirt in a bold color. Fall is the perfect time to play with bold reds. You can also transition this shirt to winter as well because nothing says holiday like red. I've kept this look on the more casual side with booties, but you could add pumps if you're feeling Blake Lively-ish for a vampier look. You could also do this combination with a black skirt as well. The other thing I like about this outfit is the juxtaposition between masculine and feminine. The shorts have an eyelet detail all over them so their very feminine, but the plaid button up shirt has a history of being a man's pattern and style. This is my favorite way to dress in the fall.

OUTFIT 2
This dress saw me through many summer days with my kiddos. It has pockets, and it is a statement all on it's own. However, as stated before red is a must for fall so why not pair your summer maxi dresses with a fall jacket and call it a day? This faux suede jacket from Nordstrom Rack is almost the same as my new KUT from the Kloth from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. It is not as nice, but it does the job, and the color is perfection. Pair it with a hat for extra fall gorgeousness, and you're good to go. Also, just a side note: I like to think of maxi dresses as jumpsuits. They are basically pants without the seams, so don't baby them. They are tough dresses (especially ones by Eliza J) and can take a park or adventure outing. Rachel Zoe is constantly saying don't baby your cloths. If you love something wear it, and wear it to the grocery store. Why not?

OUTFIT 3
It's no secret that I have a love affair with Ann Taylor LOFT. Their skirts are great, and last from season to season. Their fall skirt line up is no exception. I'm obsessed with this pink tweed skirt because it gets me out of the neutral dole drums I so often find myself in when the weather gets colder. I buy piles of navy and black and then can't figure out what to wear, and by the end of December I'm ready for color. Adding something colorful to your fall wardrobe is a great way to break up the neutral monotony, brighten your mood, and challenge you to step outside of your navy comfort zone. This outfit is also great because it adds a bit of that collegiate vibe, but a more sophisticated version, and the stitchy cardigan on top in the fabulous vintage bordeaux is just yummy. You'll be able to pair this sweater with tons of other fall items you purchase this year and years to come.
