What to Wear for a Wedding Weekend

This week we are all about weddings! My brother-in-law is getting married soon, and I couldn't help myself with the blogs and videos this week. I was definitely inspired by my friends and family asking me lots of questions about what to wear and how to do their makeup. So here we go!

AFTERNOON EVENT - OR - MORNING BRUNCH

For a wedding week, that probably means that you're in the wedding or part of the wedding member's family. It is super important that you follow the bride and groom's invitation dress code to each event. However, it is always better to come to an event more dressed up than less. Another thing to note, is that you don't want to steal the show from the bride. Please do not wear all-over white to any of the events, unless requested or okayed by the bride herself.

This floral dress and jersey jacket option is great for a couple of wedding week or weekend events. It can be worn to an extra dinner hosted by the bride and groom, or the morning after the wedding for the opening of gifts. A dress is a no brainer for all of these events, and it means less packing if you're traveling. You can spend your time thinking about mixing and matching accessories rather than tops and bottoms. Could you get away with this for the wedding? Perhaps. If it is an afternoon wedding and on the more casual side. But the fabric is not a special fabric, so I would try to find something else if possible.

THE REHEARSAL DINNER

This one is always tricky. Some rehearsal dinners are VERY casual, some are more formal. If your bride and groom are a little lax on the dress code details, then take their venue into consideration. Again, always opt for a more dressy option. I've never gone somewhere and felt uncomfortable because I was in "fancier" clothing, but I have in the reverse situation. I'm going with a classic sheath dress with a twist on the detailing. As soon as I tried on this dress it felt Roman or Greek inspired to me. I originally wanted to find some amazing gladiator gold sandals to wear...but alas no luck. So I opted for a classic beige pump. It may not be exciting, but it is a classic look that isn't over the top. It also invites other guests to talk to me because I'm not being loud with my clothing and accessory choices. People will see me before the dress, which exactly what you want during a rehearsal dinner.

THE WEDDING

Many years ago I watched a film following Valentino around during the creation of a collection and art exhibit (Valentino the Last Emperor - amazing and insightful into the world of fashion for this Italian house. I would highly recommend). There is a scene when a model is trying on an evening gown and Valentino is talking about how you never show your ankles in the evening. That has always stuck with me, and the more I went to evening events, the more I have to agree. There is something very special about a long dress for special occasions, like a wedding, that carry you through to the evening. You also carry yourself differently when you're in a gown. There's a poise and a, dar I say, je ne sais quoi that comes over you in a floor length gown. Even though I'm attending a more casual wedding I went with a lighter color and large floral print to make this dress more casual while maintaining the floor length rule. It was also requested not to wear heels to the event, so I'm pairing this dress with flat colorful sandals.
