What to Wear to an Afternoon Event

Afternoon outings and events can be tricky. How dressed up should you go? How far do you need to walk to get to said event? I've got three options from casual get together to fancy, as well as things to consider. Let's get started.

OUTFIT 1

This outfit works in femininity and masculinity into one playful outfit for winter. If you have something on the more casual side, this outfit is perfect. The dress is fun and flirty with a ditsy floral pattern that works without the jacket. The jacket is a faux suede in a moto style which takes down the sweetness of the dress, and the necklace pulls everything together. Add some wool tights, and a black boot and you are ready for get togethers with girlfriends, a lunch date with a significant other, or just hanging out with the kiddos.

OUTFIT DETAILS:

Dress: Evereve (no longer sold, but this one is awesome too)

Tights: Ann Taylor LOFT (fleece ones no longer sold, but these are great too)

Shoes: Marc Fisher

Necklace: Evereve

OUTFIT 2

This outfit has been my workhorse this month. I've worn it with and without the velvet jacket. The dress is incredible because it's flowy without being too adolescent or bedroom. Great for an afternoon event that takes you to the art museum (or any museum, creative space, etc.). This is the outfit for when you need something put together with a kick. The velvet blazer that you purchased from holiday acts as a heavier cardigan and adds texture. If you went with a shorter jacket the proportions would be off. The longer boyfriend style helps to contain the flow of the dress. Take off the jacket and you've got this killer swing dress with tons of movement in a gorgeous teal color.

I've paired this outfit with my wool tights, Marc Fisher boot, and Emma Necklace from Evereve for a little Renaissance flare.

OUTFIT 3

This dress has come in very handy for any afternoon event where I needed to pull out a midi dress. Something that didn't have a creative vibe to it, but where I needed to dress up without going black tie. Enter the patterned midi dress. A patterned midi dress is great for lunches with significant others, clients, or a work day when you want to step it up. This dress can go more casual with brown accents, or dressed up with black.
