Your Makeup & Wardrobe Matter

Here on Glossy Philosophy, I want my advice to be actionable. This week I posted a video doing the above look based on a Vogue magazine short story from September 2007. When I was editing the photos for that video and blog post I was shocked at the transformation into the 1920's flapper version. It got me thinking about the importance of presentation. Presentation of ourselves.

Here are three photos of me. In the first I'm wearing the flapper look with modern clothes and hair, the second photo is me portraying a flapper with 1920's styled hair, and the third is me wearing an everyday makeup look in modern clothes and modern hair. As you can see, makeup and clothing are powerful visuals. They tell everybody else, and yourself, a lot about you without having to say a word.

Every so often I like to think about the visual and subconscious messages I am sending out to the world, universe, and others. It's a good check in with myself to see if what I'm portraying everyday is actually what I'm trying to say. For example, for me I would NEVER wear 1920's hair, makeup, and getup to do activities with my kiddos unless that was part of the activity. I would also refrain from heavy makeup around them, unless it was part of the activity. That's me personally. If you rock those looks everyday and that's your vibe, go for it. If you're questioning your look right now, you might want to do a check in.

So I'll leave you with this thought for the weekend. Are you sending the visual messages you want to, or do you need a change? It might also be fun to just try something new, and see how you feel.

Have a wonderful weekend, and I'll be back soon for November's book talk.
