This week I did a book talk on the incredible biography of Thomas Cromwell by Tracy Borman. It inspired me to think about what a modern day Thomas Cromwell might wear makeup wise if he was a woman. I was struck my Angelina Jolie's makeup in Mr. & Mrs. Smith as being simple but impactful. Here are some tips to recreating this look, and don't forget to watch the video for the full tutorial and list of products in the description box.

This is simple makeup. It can be worn for business, everyday gatherings, or just become your go-to everyday look. It's polished, yet pops your features. When creating a look like this, it is imperative that the skin is clean and looks like skin. We are not going for a "makeup" look. This should look like you, but with enhancements. Nothing in the makeup draws attention to the viewer except your smile and what you're communicating to them.
How do we get clean skin? Correcting anything that is red, purple or blue with correcting shades like peaches and yellows. You also want the skin peaking through your foundation. It doesn't have to be a tinted moisturizer, but something on the light side of medium coverage is great because your skin looks like skin, but you have the longevity of a proper foundation.
Going lighter with the eyeshadows is also a great place to start because the attention should be on the liner and not the eyeshadows. When the liner is the hero of the eye look then it is important not to go too dark with the shadows so that the liner can pop.
last, but not least, pick a lip shade that compliments your natural lip color. This way when it fades there's not a huge color change between your lips and the lipstick you were wearing. Add a gloss for an added bonus of sophistication, and you're ready to get out the door in under 20 minutes.
Enjoy the tutorial, and let me know how you get on.
