This is my final beauty post for 2022 and I thought it was important to give as many tips and tricks about wearing a red lip, or any highly saturated colored lip, before ending the year. A lot of people want to wear a red lip during the holiday season, and possibly for New Year's festivities, but it seems to wear off immediately after applying. Let me alleviate some stress over this, and give you some behind the scenes tricks.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE LIPS
When you're doing a lip look, it is very important that your canvas (lips in this case) are well moisturized and not flaky. The winter weather can be tough on our lips and skin in general which is why I recommend doing some kind of lip scrub and balm pre-application. When I'm doing my own makeup or someone else's I'll do this right away and let everything sink in while I'm doing the other makeup parts so that the red lip doesn't just slip right off.
ADD A PENCIL
Yes I did. I am that obsessed with red lips right now that I decided to get a lip pencil. I know. I've said it many times in videos and blogs that I'm not that gal. Well, when you are 36 and want to wear a red lip, a pencil is important. Why? Because otherwise the red lip can travel. Especially when I'm using a more hydrating formula like Lisa Eldridge's Luxuriously Lucent Lip Color.
I line my lips and then fill them in (watch the video tomorrow for more liner tips). This is super important. If you don't fill in the entire lip, then when your lip color fades you are going to end up with a red ring around your lips. Not cute. When you fill in your entire lip it acts like a lip primer because of all the wax that is in the lip pencil.
APPLY, BLOT, REPEAT
Now you're ready to apply your red lipstick of choice. Make sure you are smooshing (technical term) your lips together after each application. It is very important to do this so that you move the pigment and product around to cover your entire lip. Blot with either a split tissue, regular tissue, or toilet paper between each application. This will leave more pigment and take up any excess that might be on your lip. How many applications? That's up to you. I can feel when my lips are saturated and don't want anymore. You will too. I read once that Marilyn Monroe's makeup artist would do something like 5-10 applications of her red lip while blotting in between to make sure it was seen on screen and popped for all those closeups.
Now you know the recipe for a great long lasting red lip. Add a gloss if you need a little hydration, or leave as is. Make sure to watch the video tomorrow for even more tips and tricks, and have a very happy new year celebration!
