Judy Garland Tribute Makeup

Someone very close to me recently passed away, and I wanted to do something special for her on this platform. When I was reminiscing about all the amazing ways she touched my life, musicals and Judy Garland kept popping into my head again and again. She was the one who introduced me to some of my favorite musicals like Easter Parade, Singing in the Rain, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. She showed me a completely different world from the one I knew. One where dancing, singing, and old world beauty reigned supreme. I immediately fell in love. So this post and video are dedicated to her. Thank you for all the wonder and beauty you brought to my life.

When I was looking at photos of Judy Garland's makeup from Easter Parade I was struck by the image I had in my head vs. the reality of her makeup. In my head, Judy Garland's character was far more glamorous than she is the film. I forgot that her arch rival, Nadine, is the glamorous one and Judy Garland's character brings a fresh and vivacious energy to the screen with her minimal makeup and bright lip. It also struck me with how modern this look was. It is something we see again and again on the runway and in magazines. It is also great for a quick pick me up while we head into the spring season.

MAKEUP TIPS

As always, you can get the full makeup tutorial here, or by scrolling down and watching on this platform. I walk you through entire look from foundation to lip. But for now I'll leave you with a few thoughts on creating this look.

If this is your first time using your brighter lipstick, or your first time doing a lip look, I would advise you to put your makeup on in this order: correcting, complexion, brows, LIP, eyes, and finishing touches (bronzer, blush, etc.). Why the lips first? When you do your makeup in this order it allows your eyes to see where you need a little more color and a little more pop. Because the lip color is so saturated it takes over. It is the hero of the look. If you do your eye makeup first you might end up over powering, or worse, competing with your lip.

Lastly, as always with lip looks, I think it is a necessity to bring a lip gloss with you for quick and effortless touch ups throughout the day. Your lipstick will wear off. Especially if you're using something like the Luxuriously Lucent Lip Colours by Lisa Eldridge. I love them, and they fade beautifully; but fade they do, especially after eating. In order to maintain somewhat of a lip look, bring a gloss that closely resembles your original lip color. I love Lisa's Embrace Lip Glosses, and Bobbi Brown has some amazing ones too.

Enjoy, and do let me know how you get on. All links to beauty products used will be in the description box of the video on my YouTube channel, click here.
