Nail Polish is Highly Under Rated

Have you ever looked down at your toes or hands and smiled? Never has the power of color been more true than in your home and what you paint on your nails. Many years ago, in the beauty community, there would be entire videos dedicated to nail polish. What colors influencers were loving, wearing, and purchasing each season. I LOVED it! Obviously, I love color, and I love to play with color. Nail polish is not only another way to express yourself and your mood for the week (cross your fingers), but it can also be a mood booster. Let's dive into the world of nail polish for a bit.

REDS & PINKS

It wasn't that long ago (1950's) when you couldn't find a nail polish color besides red and pink. It just wasn't done. I remember when I was growing up and stores like Ulta and Sephora weren't around in my home town. I never saw anything outside of pinks and reds, and that was the 1980's my friends. The first time I saw black nail polish I freaked. The first time I saw Lindsey Lohan wearing navy blue nail polish in the updated version of The Parent Trap, was sealed in my beauty mind forever. Were these colors allowed?

BALLET SLIPPERS

It has been well documented that the Queen of England will only wear Ballet Slippers by Essie on her finger nails. It is also a known rule that other royals may only wear nude and pink colors. At first when I read about this, I thought that would not work for me. But then I started thinking about the amount of photographs these women are in. Their nails have to be perfection all the time. They are busy ladies too, so they don't have time to pop into get their nails done every other day. At least if you get a chip in your polish with something like ballet slippers, it won't show up in the photograph as easily as say Lincoln Park After Dark by OPI (one of my personal favorites!).

WHAT COLORS SHOULD I CHOOSE?

Malcolm Gladwell, author of the incredible book The Tipping Point, has five drinks that he will drink, no others may enter the ring. He says that this is a rule he put in place to make his life easier. Smart! I decided to put this into practice with my nail polish. Let me tell you, I've never EVER gone through a nail polish bottle until this year when I implemented this rule. And you know what? It did make my life easier (thanks Gladwell).

Here are the 5 nail polish colors I've been wearing non-stop this summer:

A Few Thoughts About Each Color:

Nice Set of Pipes

My love for this color is real. I'm about halfway through the bottle, and it is my go to color when I'm not sure if I'm up for a bright color that week. I believe that colors speak to us, and help us gage out moods. If I'm feeling super upbeat bright! More mysterious or thoughtful Nice Set of Pipes. It also works great with anything blue, purple, black, neutral. I would call it a blue purple. Not as dark as Lincoln Park After Dark, but close.

Live, Love, Carnaval

If you need a coral in your life you NEED this color. It is perfection. It's not too pink, it's not too red or orange, it's coral. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to find this unicorn shade? Very. Love it, celebrate life with it, and smile everyday you wear it.

Kanapai OPI!

I thought I would regret this color. I thought I would never wear it. I LOVE this color. When I need a break from Live, Love, Carnival but want to keep it light this is a great option. It's also a great option for wearing something that acts like a neutral, but is a color...go with me. It's a light blue purple without going into pastel zones.

Ibiza Breeze

Wow! I was not expecting this shade to be so minty green, but I love it. It is a great mood booster, and a good one to go for if you're wearing a mint dress or mint accessories that week. Be warned this is not a dainty mint, it is an in your face "I'm wearing color on my nails." kind of color.

Barefoot in Barcelona

What an amazing shade for those weeks when you need you nails to match everything. From bright maxi dresses to neutral attire this is the perfect shade of nude for a lighter skin tone. Also, a great shade for a bride or bridesmaids.

I hope this post was helpful and enjoyable to read. Please be sure to check back next week when we're talking about my most worn summer clothes and another beauty tutorial. Have a fabulous weekend!
