I was perusing literature at my local library for book talk material when I remembered that I can check out Vogue! I quickly got myself to the magazine shelf and checked out all the Vogue's that were available from this year and 2021. The April 2022 cover caught my eye right away because it's a wearable makeup look, and I have blue walls! I confess I don't read Vogue unless it contains a story about a musician, art, or a show coming up; however, the photography is usually incredible, and this issue was the same. Let's dive into the look.

THINGS TO CONSIDER
Here are some things I want to emphasize when recreating a look from a cover. Obviously, Bella Hadid and I look different. Her hair is very dark brown, her skin tone is darker (at least in the photograph), and our features are different. When you're doing a look based on someone else's face it's important to add some time to play with where the products are going because the same makeup done on one person can look very different on another.
It's also important to remember that photographs are retouched and shot with artistry in mind. When you see the final photograph it can be difficult to figure out where certain products are placed or if they were used at all. Just use your best judgement, and think of it as a makeup artistry challenge. You are stretching your skills and taking something from a master at their craft and applying it to your own face. Be kind to yourself and give yourself time.
NO LINER?!
This was one of the things that really struck me about the makeup. I'm a liner gal. I think we can all agree with that. Whenever I don't use a liner or use eyeshadow for liner I feel funny. But you know what? The placement of the darker shadow in the crease really works wonders! I got a lot of compliments that day, and while I might not stretch my shadows out like I did in the tutorial I really liked how soft the look was. It's good to step out of your comfort zone.
WHAT'S IN A LOOK?
All in all this is a very wearable look from Vogue. This magazine knows what they are doing. Bella Hadid shares some intimate details about her life and the photograph reflects that. She's not wearing a ton of makeup, so she's baring her face/soul to you. Hadid's back is uncovered which is a great allegory to being flogged way back when, but the top they chose is very elegant so it's not too on the nose. The background is dark which hits you right away as a moody and painterly issue or article. Study and learn from these photographers, makeup artists, stylist, etc. They are the best.
